About the author
My name is Gareth Hanson and I’m an adventure addict living in the virtually flat county of East Yorkshire.
My brother and I started climbing early 2008 with a starter course at Rock City in Hull. We quickly became hooked! Hundreds of hours, and even more hundreds of pounds later, not much has changed – we’re still nuts about climbing.
My love affair with mountains started around 12 years ago when I decided to take a break from clubbing and take a holiday, snowboarding in Andorra. The combination of beautiful mountain vistas, fresh air and adrenaline fueled activity was a heady cocktail which has captivated me to this day.
I still love snowboarding and I make a point of spending at least 2 weeks on the slopes every year.
More recently (around 6 years ago) I got into mountain biking. Similar ingredients (vista + fresh air + adrenaline) but you don’t have to leave the country to get involved.
All of these activities are soul food to me. I work in an office, in a completely manic environment, which consumes me from Monday to Friday. The mountains are an antidote to the constant stress, and leave me feeling completely at one with myself.
My favourite type of climbing is on large multi-pitch routes, preferably far from civililisation. I’ll be going on as many expeditions as I can, and I’ll share my experiences with you.
In between expeditions I’ll be climbing regulary around Yorkshire, Derbyshire, The Lake District and North Wales.
See you out there.
